The 1970s was the start of the 8-bit microprocessor and microcontroller revolution. It started with the 4-bit Intel 4004, but it was really the 8-bit Intel 8080 and the Zilog Z80 that made the difference. The emergence of the 16-bit Intel 8088 and 8086 led to the PC revolution.
