An important aspect of cloud communications and IoT data transfer is the timing. Clock timing and data transmission are inextricably linked, and without synchronization nothing can be sent. Semtech’s Tri-Edge PAM4 clock and data recovery (CDR) technology is presented as the first low-power solution available for optical communication links from 100 m to 10 km.Tri-Edge builds on the company's ClearEdge non-return-to-zero (NRZ)-based CDR platformit's an analog-based PAM4 CDR platform optimized for optical interconnect.

The quad PAM4 Tri-Edge GN2555 CDR with integrated directly modulated laser (DML) drivers is designed for 53.125-Gb/s signal conditioning within pluggable optical modules. It includes proprietary DML compensation to enable a wide range of low-cost DML options with fully adaptive input equalization. We talk with Semtech's Raza Khan about data timing and the company's solutions.
